Roger Husband, owner of Husband Funeral Home and one of the elite instructors/professors of the embalming lab at Wayne State University's mortuary science program, sat down with us and stepped back in history to his most memorable time in his career.

It was the evening of October 24th, 2005, he was then with Swanson Funeral Home in Detroit. Rosa Parks had just passed. It would be Roger's fate that would allow him the opportunity to take care and prepare one of our nation's most iconic civil rights leaders for her final resting.

Her funeral would not be of the norm. Ms. Parks would first appear for mourners in the town of Montgomery, Alabama. She then would lay in state in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Eventually, Ms. Parks would make her way back to Detroit where she lay in repose at the Charles Wright Museum in Detroit and finally, interred at Detroit's Woodlawn Cemetery in the chapel's mausoleum.

Mr. Husband reflects on this time in his life with a great deal of passion for the job as a professional.

Roger, while we were talking, also shed wonderful thoughts on grief and what it means to feel the loss of a loved one.
